Promises of God

Do you remember as a kid being promised a gift or to be taken some where like Disneyland? What did you feel in that moment? I can still feel the emotions now, all that joy, hope and excitement! I remember telling all my friends about what I was going to get or where I was going to go. Then the big day would come… just to find out… I wasn’t going to get the gift after all or the Disney Land trip was canceled. Do you remember that feeling too? The hurt, the letdown, the anger and frustration?

Let’s take it a little deeper. Have you ever had someone say they love you then the next day they don’t? Have you ever had someone say they would never leave you, just to find out they were gone the next day? What about life? Maybe you expected so much, maybe you thought you would be at a way better place you are now but mistake after mistake, hurt after hurt, bad relationship after bad relationship you find yourself feeling less of a person just taking life as it comes.

The Bible says that Hope deferred makes a heart sick. Meaning when what you hoped for doesn’t come to pass it hurts!

But I’m not writing this blog to tell you about a man or a woman or a mistake that you made. I’m writing this to tell you about a God.

Numbers 23:19 says, “that God is not a man that he should lie”.

Hebrews 6:18 says that, “…it is impossible for God to lie…”.

In Isaiah 55:11 God says, “so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

These scriptures point to the fact that when God says something it’s going to happen.

Let’s put one into practice

Jeremiah 29:11 says…

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

What do you think about your future? Do you think that you will you always be a loser? That you’ll always be broke? That you’ll always be single? That you’ll always be addicted?

I believe that we keep thinking these negative thoughts about our future because we don’t trust in the promises of God. If the bible says that it is impossible for God to lie, then why do we question if God can bless us? Why do we think we’ll always be addicted, broke or single?

What will help you combat these thoughts is believing and trusting in the promise God found in Jeremiah 29:11. Every time a worry or fear creeps in your mind about your future remember this verse.

Here’s what I want you to do. Find a promise from God in the Bible that deals with your particular problem and plant your faith in it. Don’t doubt it, be about it and watch what God does in your life. Even though people may have let you down, God never will. Even though people may have left you, God will never leave nor forsake you. Even though people have stopped loving you, God will never stop loving you. All of this is backed by a promise from God.
