“Awakening and owning the dreams that God has placed in our hearts isn’t about getting stuff or attaining something. It’s about embracing who we are and who he has created us to be. In him. He is our dream come true, and the one true love of our life. But we can’t love him with our whole hearts when our hearts are asleep. To love Jesus means to risk coming awake, to risk wanting and desiring.”-Stasi Eldredge
Let’s agree on one thing – the God who created the heavens and earth, made you YOU on Purpose. There will never be another you on this earth – ever. There is destiny and future INSIDE of You that will only be displayed if it is awaken. We at some point in our lives were dormant souls, walking through life without direction and living lethargically day by day unknowing we contained immense greatness waiting to be unleashed. My soul was asleep for years, until I met the Creator that had the key to unlock my potential. His name is Morpheus, No I am just kidding his real name is Jesus, The Prince of Peace. (Silly side note: The ‘Matrix’ movie series are spiritual and I advise you to watch them to get a good visual of how asleep you were or still are.)
When I was younger, I attended a church that was full of rules and regulations, where a young woman must act properly, displaying characteristics of the perfect Proverbs 31 Woman. Their interpretation of the proverbs woman was quiet, slow speaking and unexpressive. I tried to fit that human mold time and time again but the real me would pop up once in a while and mess it all up. Now, if you’ve met me you would know that I’m neither of those things. I’m loud and I’m sassy. Some have even said my laugh resembles that of a very large rough man. So you can only imagine the internal struggle of a young girl trying to become someone she was not created to be. What I know now and didn’t know then is that God did not make a Christian mold that must fit everyone. His intent wasn’t to create robots. He made each and one of us so uniquely different on purpose. Every characteristic of your personality was made on purpose, you are a piece of the puzzle or link that God is so desperately wanting to connect to his community of believers. Most importantly God LOVES you, He really really really loves you, so much in fact that he won’t leave you in your original broken state but rather heal the brokenness and then sets your path for DESTINY and GREATNESS.
In today’s world your worth is based on the amount of followers you have on social media or the amount of likes you get on a picture that is filtered. Whether you believe it or not, you are worth far more that a like or a follower… in reality you are desperately needed. Without you, much will be lost. Whether male or female, mother or father, brother or sister, you are NEEDED. Whether you’re a single mother making good decisions each day to live right by your kids or a father who after a long day’s work comes home and interacts with his children so that they will know a father’s love, we ALL play a significant role in this life that can either flourish into purpose or wrinkle away in hopelessness. In church our Pastor has a saying “It’s not about me, it’s about you, it’s not about you it’s about others.” We need each other.
So, what does it mean to come alive and be a part of something that is bigger than yourself, to awaken your soul? Is there a pill? A 12 step program or some type of Jesus juice? Fortunately all it means is embracing who we are and who he has created us to be. In him. Accepting ourselves for who we truly are, sinners in need of salvation that are actively cooperating with God’s intention for our lives, not fighting him or ourselves.
So I challenge you to COME ALIVE.
But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.– Ephesians 2:4-10
