Defined Love

Love can be described as the engine of our lives. For many, love seems to be the main underlying goal we all strive to achieve; to love and be loved. Love is something we constantly seek. The question that lingers within many of our minds is, what is love? I know this question existed in my mind for some time and it became a constant pursuit for a love that always left emptiness within.

So what is love? Is it what’s being portrayed in social media? Is it what we see in Hollywood movies? What are the examples today of what love should be and what it should look like? John 3:16 says, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” Love is what drove Jesus to the cross! And this is Gods perfect love for us. God loves you so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be born on earth and die on a cross for our sins. God made a way for US. Christ lived a perfect, blameless life and was the perfect sacrifice for our sins so we can be in communion with Him. Jesus died in our place. And this is when it all made sense… This is what TRUE LOVE is.

All the guilt and bondage that was going on within me couldn’t let me see and experience true love. When I let God into my heart, He broke every shame and every wall that kept me blind for many years; Blinded to the ways of this world; Blinded to what was expected of me or what was portrayed by the media of what love is or should look like. When I encountered the love of Christ I knew I didn’t have to be perfect or have it all together to finally experience TRUE LOVE, but I was challenged to simply come as I was. His unblemished LOVE opened my eyes to a new defined love. Because love isn’t found in money, women, cars, or temporary satisfactions, but its solely found in Him. He, who knew no sin, became sin before our eyes to pay a price that was rightfully ours so we can be free. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.”

But we know no love if we don’t know the one who IS LOVE, Jesus Christ. In a relationship there is no greater freedom than to know that the love that you give is constantly being reciprocated. When we are in communion with God he brings stability and purpose to our lives. As a young adult in today’s society there are many challenges in finding purpose in life. For many, having the best car, best clothes or lots of money has become a relentless pursuit of identity. 2 Corinthians 1:22 says, “He has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts.” Meaning that we no longer have to identify ourselves with the labels of this world, but rather identify ourselves in who we are in Jesus. We start believing the promises of God and what He says about us. Because he who is in Christ is a new creation, the old is gone and the new has come. A daily communion with Jesus Christ feeds all desires. As His spirit grows within you, you become more conscious of His love and less conscious of the external. God provides all the love you could ever need. Jesus’ love is sufficient enough! With out first knowing HIS love, you will not be able to experience true love and the ability to love yourself and others around you.
